The Astros acquired Michael Bourn thinking that he'd be their center fielderfor a long time, but Flores could have something to say about that as soon as2009. A fourth-round pick in 2005, Flores nearly matches Bourn's blazing speedand already bests him in power. He's still learning center field after beingconverted from shortstop, but he has the tools to be a more-than-adequatedefender. One cause for concern is that he had an OPS 250 points higheragainst lefties last season, though if he only turns out to be a platoonpartner for Bourn, that wouldn't be such a bad thing for the Astros. Hefigures to open next year in Double-A and make his major league debut as areserve in September. With Josh Anderson gone to Atlanta, there's a slightchance he could be called on earlier.

Including theAFL season, he managed just one homer in 504 at-bats last season. He canoccasionally pull a ball into the gap for a double, but he has no power at allthe other way. Manzella will have to get a little stronger -- preferablywithout losing any range at shortstop -- if he's going to make it in the majors.Since Geoff Blum and Chris Burke would be massive defensive downgrades,it'spossible Manzella will receive a look if Everett gets hurt again next year.

Includinghis stint in the AFL, he fanned 189 times in 162 games. He does offer prettygood defense in the hot corner, and his power would likely translate prettywell to the majors the three or four times per week he made solid contact.Maybe he can shorten his swing a bit and turn into a more legitimate threat.As is, he's a Triple-A player.
